Kolo Toure has joined Theo Walcott on the Arsenal injury list.
It has been widely reported that the winger dislocated his shoulder on England
duty and will be out for three months. However, speaking exclusively to Arsenal
TV Online on Thursday, Arsene Wenger added that he is likely to be without his
Ivorian centre half for the trip to Manchester City.
At this point of the week, the full effect of international games is hard to
predict with 100 per cent accuracy. However, despite the fact that Emmanuel
Adebayor and Carlos Vela had not yet arrived back at the Training Ground,
he seemed confident no other players would be out.
As it is, Wenger knows Cesc Fabregas is suspended, Robin van Persie is back
after a three-match ban and Emmanuel Eboue (knee) is still injured.
“Kolo Toure is a major doubt,” said Wenger. “He got an injury on his calf
with Ivory Coast. But apart from him and Adebayor, who flies in tonight and
I have not spoken to, everybody is OK. “
In the past, Wenger has been reluctant to use players who arrive back late
after long, arduous flights. However, with injuries biting, the Frenchman will
not stick with that policy for Manchester City.
“At the moment no,” he said. “I will need everybody on board. We only get
back Carlos Vela tomorrow morning, maybe the afternoon. So when he lands we
will have to transfer him to Manchester.”
