1.實驗室詳細資訊
The Device Research and Engineering Laboratory at the University of
Pennsylvania (an Ivy League University), led by Prof. Deep Jariwala is
engaged in the study, design and development of nanometer and atomic scale
devices, materials and interfaces for applications in computing, sensing,
information technology and renewable energy. Our research is highly
inter-disciplinary involving expertise from Electrical Engineering, Materials
Science, Condensed Matter Physics, Optics as well as Physical Chemistry.
Briefly, our research lies at the intersection of solid-state
opto-electronics and emerging low-dimensional materials. Specifically, Deep
envisions combining new techniques to assemble, grow and integrate
nanostructured materials, including molecular materials with state-of-the-art
nano-fabrication methods to create novel electronic and photonic devices. The
applications of these devices range from next generation logic switches to
sensors to photovoltaic devices and light emitting diodes. Deep uses
spatially and spectrally resolved current and photon spectroscopy as well as
scanning probe techniques to understand charge and energy transport
mechanisms across atomically-sharp and hybrid interfaces which are at the
core of modern semiconductor opto-electronics. Please look at website below

2.教授詳細資訊:
Deep Jariwala is an Assistant Professor in Department of Electrical and
Systems Engineering with a secondary appointment in Materials Science and
Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. Deep completed his
undergraduate degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-BHU) in
2010. During his time as an undergraduate summer researcher, Deep contributed
to the early pioneering works on chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of graphene,
boron nitride and their heterostructures in Professor Pulickel Ajayan’s
group at Rice University. Deep then went on to pursue his Ph.D. in Materials
Science and Engineering (MSE) at Northwestern University under supervision of
Professor Mark Hersam and Professor Tobin Marks. At Northwestern, Deep made
contributions to the study of charge transport and electronic applications of
two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors and pioneering the study of gate-tunable,
mixed-dimensional, van der Waals heterostructures. After graduating in 2015
Deep was appointed as the Resnick Prize Postdoctoral Fellow at the California
Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena. At Caltech deep investigated
strategies for enhancing light-matter interactions in 2D systems for
efficient, ultra-thin, opto-electronic devices in Professor Harry Atwater’s
group. His research interests broadly lie at the intersection of new
materials, surface science and solid state devices for opto-electronics and
energy harvesting applications. Deep has over 9 years of experience in
nanomaterials of all classes and type as well as device fabrication and
characterization expertise. He has > 40 papers and 3 patents. He has
published in many high impact (Nature group) journals and has been cited more
than 4500 times.

3.徵才條件:
Opening for postdoctoral research scholar
(1).Responsibilities mainly include performing experiments on high impact
projects in the area of 2D materials, nanoelectronics and nanophotonics. Some
mentoring of graduate students is also required. The postdoc will have
sufficient freedom to build a team of younger graduate students and
undergraduates to work on multiple, high-impact projects.
(2).Required expertise in CVD synthesis of 2D materials and/or experience in
standard micro/nanofabrication and cleanroom techniques and/or experience in
electronic device characterization standard current-voltage, capacitance and
lock-in techniques, photocurrent, photoluminescence, functional scanning
probe microscopy etc.
(3).Government fellowship or other funding source preferred. Partial cost
sharing can be done between government fellowship and the funds of the
professor. Compensation: Annual salary of 48000 USD and single person medical
insurance coverage alongside other staff benefits that the university
provides.
