Title: Neurophysiology and cognitive functions post-doctoral fellowship
Department of Health and Human Services
National Institutes of Health
National Institute on Aging
The National Institute on Aging (NIA), a major research component of the
National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Health and
Human Services (HHS), is recruiting postdoctoral fellows with interest in
neurophysiology and cognitive functions in the Laboratory of Behavioral
Neuroscience (LBN).
Research in the Neural Circuits and Cognition Unit of LBN aims to understand
how cognitive functions are mediated by interactions of cortical and
subcortical circuits, with a primary focus on the role of basal forebrain
in executive functions and attention. The laboratory combines multiple
experimental approaches, including neuronal ensemble recording in behaving
rats and mice, as well as novel behavioral paradigms, computational analysis
and optogenetic techniques. Our goals are to establish the
functional significance of basal forebrain in diverse aspects of executive
functions, elucidate the underlying neural circuit mechanisms, and translate
these findings from animals to humans to understand impairment of executive
functions associated with diseases and aging.
We are looking for talented, creative and motivated postdoctoral candidates
to join our team. We are especially interested in individuals with significant
experience in rodent neurophysiology and strong computational skills.
Fellowship duration is up to 5 years. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in
psychology/neuroscience or M.D., with less than five years of postdoctoral
research experience. The position is located in Baltimore, MD, a city with a
stimulating scientific and cultural environment, with proximity to the
Johns Hopkins campus. Salary is commensurate with experience and
accomplishments.
To apply, please send curriculum vitae, a brief description of research
interests, and three letters of reference to: Shih-Chieh Lin, Investigator,
Laboratory of Behavioral Neuroscience, at Shih-Chieh.Lin@nih.gov or at
Biomedical Research Center, 251 Bayview Blvd, Suite 100, Room 9C220, Baltimore,
MD 21224-6825.
